GOLDEN FROG SCUBA

ULTIMATE Airboat Tours and Fishing Excursions

Golden Frog Scuba is proud to announce the expansion of our operations to include other activities in the Panama Canal area.

We are currently the ONLY facility in Panama to offer personalized airboat tours on Lake Gatun.

From our floating dock, located in the north eastern rainforest jungle region of the Panama Canal, you'll cruise into bays and channels along forested coastlines where wildlife is plentiful.  The area, islands and adjacent peninsulas provide important habitat for almost 400 bird species and over 100 mammal species that are indigenous to the Panama Canal.  Not to mention, over 1300 plant species.
At first, we'll travel at high speed (well, up to 40-45 MPH) to experience the thrill and exhilaration of riding an airboat, then slowly motor along the forested banks of Lake Gatun as we look for wildlife such as Capuchin monkeys, 3-toed sloths, Howler monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas, various kinds of toucans and whatever other wildlife we can find!

We consider our trips ULTIMATE, not just because we are the only airboat operation, but we also offer combo fishing excursions.  You'll enjoy the "ultimate" peacock bass fishing experience combined with the ride itself.
Not only is Lake Gatun home to the peacock bass (see below for more in depth information), but there are other species such as tarpon, snook and tropical bluegill to name a few.  The nice thing is...since these fish are so plentiful, there are NO limits or restrictions to your catch!  A novice angler can typically catch a good sized quantity of 1-3 pound peacock bass in a relatively "short" period of time (roughly 3-4 hours).  Imagine what an adept angler can do!
As well, we also offer night time tours...or as we like to call..."the croc hunt".  This airboat tour is for those who want to experience the furthest extremes in adventure and thrill and are NOT afraid of the dark (or crocs for that matter!)

So check out our various Tour Packages listed below and plan your trip now!

Beverages, ice and bait are included.  No meals or snacks...feel free to bring your own or accommodations can be made if you let us know in advance.  Tours are 2 guest minimum, 4 guest max due to size of boat.  We did say it's "personalized"!

...And now, more about the peacock bass:

The peacock bass, locally known as Sargento, was introduced into Lake Gatun unintentionally in the late 1950's.  A well known aquarist began raising peacock bass in a small pond in his back yard for sale as aquarium fish.  Within a year, heavy rains flooded the pond causing some fry to escape into a nearby creek which drained into Lake Gatun.  By 1964, the lake and nearby rivers and creeks were overrun with the peacock bass, thus providing sport fishing opportunities that had not existed previously.

Since then, peacock bass has become the dominant sport fishing species in the area.  The peacock bass are considered a premier game fish.  Their average size runs about 2 to 3 lbs, which are the most common to catch, though 5-8 lb are not too uncommon or even be lucky and skillful enough to land one of the many monster size 8-12 pounders that patrol the waters.....as this species found in Gatun have been caught at up to 15 lbs!
Lake Gatun remains to this day, as it has been for more than 50 years, one of THE BEST peacock bass angling lakes in the world.
